“Doing nothing often leads to the very best of something.” – Winnie the Pooh

How often do you stop and do literally nothing but sit and feel and appreciate a moment for what it is? Every time there’s an empty space do you fill it? We don’t even go to the bathroom in peace, we take our phones and scroll. We drive and text, we try to do multiple tasks at once, we sit on social media while watching TV because just watching isn’t enough, we take pictures instead of being in the moment, we workout and stress over our to do lists, we fill every part of our attention every second we get.

What would happen if we stopped filling and stopped distracting every second of our lives? Would we think more clearly? Would we feel more at peace? Would our worries lessen? Would we remember more? Would our success be higher?

I sometimes wonder if it’s even possible to sit in stillness without going crazy to grab something to capture my attention or to be productive. Don’t get me wrong, I am a proactive doer and Hustling is my middle name. But hustling doesn’t have to mean every second of everyday has to be filled and distracted. Those small moments of complete peace are what keeps me hustling to the best of my ability without burnout. Things like looking at the ocean, cheering my daughter on at a softball game instead of in my head about my next business move, walking my dog and focusing on breathing in the fresh air instead of writing my grocery list in my phone, etc etc. How many things do you perform distracted everyday? How often do you do NOTHING?

That facebook scroll isn’t providing you with any groundbreaking information, that obsessing over your to do list isn’t making it go away, watching tik tok while you watch TV isn’t going to land you some big career opportunity, that constant need to text someone isn’t going to make your relationships at home any better, filtering your photos of you on the beach isn’t going to make the experience any better, etc etc.

Hustle on the things that matter, and stop distracting with things that don’t. Take time to do nothing so that your life will be filled with lots of somethings’.
