Do you ever feel yourself holding back from an emotion? Do you talk yourself out of needing a good cry? Do you downplay a joyous moment and hold back your smile? Do you distract or get busy instead of feeling worried or stressed?

Don’t be afraid to feel what you need to feel. Sometimes that good cry is what brings some peace. That crazy excitement is what sparks adrenaline. That aggravation is what propels progress.

Life is full of emotions; up, down, and everything in between. Part of self-care is to process your emotions in a healthy way. A lot of us like to bottle the emotions up, or distract and avoid, or just sit too long dwelling in it. This eventually could lead to things like anger, anxiety, depression, or just losing your temper fully one day.

When you have an intense sensation of emotion/ feeling; Notice it, label it, then care for it.

Notice the sensation that’s happening in your body from the emotion. It could be a headache, a tightness of the chest, feeling sick to your stomach, etc.

Call out what it is your feeling. Anger, frustration, anxiety, disappointment, fear, sadness, etc. Be able to label what that sensation is feeling like, so you know what’s going on.

Then sit with it and figure out what you need. Just pausing to breathe and addressing what’s going on, sometimes it can be enough to get you through. Once you take the time to really understand what you’re feeling, you get more control over knowing what to do. Maybe it’s running, maybe it’s journaling, talking to someone, or just breathing and telling yourself you got this.

Allow yourself to feel whatever you feel. Feel it all. Let it go.
