Darker evenings, shorter days, gloomy weather, cold temps, chaotic holiday schedules, seasonal sickness, the list of things that can bring on seasonal depression is a big one. That’s why it’s so vital to implement self-care during this season.

Some people start and end their day in complete darkness and are indoors 24/7 during this season. This takes a toll on mental and physical health. Try getting outside in the fresh air for even five minutes a day. Buy a light box or red light for inside and use it daily.

Plan a trip! Whether a one night get away at a hotel in town, a week long beach trip, a weekend cabin in the woods, whatever it is, plan something so you have it to look forward to.

Try some new recipes! We tend to live in a Groundhog Day world, we wake up, work, eat, sleep, repeat. Throw some fun new recipes in the mix to bring some tasty change up to your day.

Add daily physical activity of any kind! Stretch before bed, walk on the treadmill for 20 minutes, lift weights at the gym, take a yoga class virtually, take a group fitness class somewhere, hike in the woods, walk the dog, etc! Do something to get your body moving, blood flowing, and endorphins going!

Make plans with friends. A weekly phone call, start a book club, have a movie night, double date out, take a workout class together, grab coffee, etc. Keep your spirits high by surrounding yourself with others.

TREAT YO SELF! Book a massage, take a candlelit bubble bath, get your nails done, buy a new outfit, pick up a boquet of flowers, grab your favorite coffee shop latte, etc. Remember we have one life to live, you should enjoy it!

Don’t let this season drag you down, take action now to beating the winter blues and having a season full of life.
