I’ve realized lately that sometimes the hardest part about finally being happy… is actually allowing yourself to be happy.

When you’ve been through hard seasons, disappointment, heartbreak, uncertainty, financial stress, or just years where it felt like there was always something—you get really good at surviving.

But sometimes you get so good at surviving that you forget how to live when things are actually good.

You finally get the thing you prayed for.

Life starts feeling lighter.

You look around and realize there is so much to be grateful for.

And instead of enjoying it, there’s this little voice in the back of your mind saying…

“Okay, but what’s going to happen next?”

You start waiting for the other shoe to drop.

You almost feel like enjoying something too much will somehow jinx it. Like if you let your guard down, life will catch you off guard again.

But I don’t want to live like that anymore.

I don’t want to spend the good days worrying about the possibility of bad ones.

Because the truth is, hard things will happen again. That’s life. There will be seasons that stretch me, disappoint me, scare me, and force me to grow.

But worrying about them ahead of time doesn’t protect me from them.

It just steals joy from the season I’m in right now.

And right now, there are blessings in front of me that deserve to be fully experienced.

People I love.

Moments I once prayed for.

Little things that would have meant everything to a previous version of me.

I don’t want to be so busy looking over my shoulder for what could go wrong that I miss everything that is going right.

Maybe peace isn’t believing nothing bad will ever happen again.

Maybe peace is knowing that if it does, I’ll handle it when it gets here.

Until then, I’m going to enjoy what’s good.

I’m going to be present.

I’m going to laugh without wondering how long the happiness will last.

I’m going to thank God for what’s in front of me instead of constantly asking Him what’s coming next.

I’m going to let a good season just be a good season.

Because I’ve spent enough of my life waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I’d rather spend it enjoying the blessings that are already here.
