Maybe it wasn’t the wrong timing after all

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about timing.

The things we wanted that didn’t happen when we thought they should. The plans that fell apart. The relationships that ended. The doors that closed. The seasons where it felt like everyone else was moving forward while we were somehow standing still.

And when you’re in the middle of it, it’s hard to understand.

You think, Why isn’t this working out?
Why am I still here?
Why did I have to go through that?
Why couldn’t it have just happened the way I wanted it to?

But then life keeps moving.

And one day, you look back and realize that some of the things you thought were delays were actually redirections.

Some of the things you begged to work out would have kept you somewhere you weren’t supposed to stay.

Some of the people you thought you couldn’t live without were only meant to be part of one chapter.

Some of the opportunities you were devastated to lose made room for something you never would have considered otherwise.

And sometimes, you simply weren’t ready yet.

That one can be hard to admit.

We want things when we want them. We convince ourselves that we know exactly how our lives are supposed to unfold and exactly when everything should happen.

But the version of you who wanted something two years ago might not have been capable of carrying what the version of you today can handle.

Maybe you needed the lessons first.

Maybe you needed to fail at a few things.

Maybe you needed your heart broken.

Maybe you needed to learn how to be alone.

Maybe you needed to build confidence, boundaries, patience, or trust.

Maybe you needed to become someone different before certain things could finally fit into your life the way they were supposed to.

I think that’s what I’m learning most about this season of life: just because something didn’t happen on my timeline doesn’t mean it was late.

There are things in my life today that would not have worked a few years ago.

Not because they were wrong.

Because the timing was.

And there are things I once desperately wanted that I’m incredibly grateful I never received.

That’s the strange thing about hindsight.

Eventually, you start seeing purpose in places that once only felt painful.

You realize the detour actually took you somewhere.

The waiting changed you.

The disappointment taught you something.

The ending created space.

And suddenly, pieces that made absolutely no sense while you were living them start fitting together.

I don’t think that means we have to pretend every hard season is beautiful. Some seasons just suck. Some losses hurt. Some waiting feels unfair. Sometimes you can do everything “right” and still have absolutely no idea why things aren’t working out.

But I’m learning that I don’t always need to know why yet.

Sometimes the only thing you can do is keep going and trust that you haven’t seen the whole story.

Because maybe life isn’t behind.

Maybe you didn’t miss your chance.

Maybe it’s not taking “too long.”

Maybe some things really do have to fall apart, change, end, or take a completely different route before they can come together the way they were always supposed to.

And maybe one day you’ll look around at a life that looks nothing like the one you originally planned…

and realize the timing was right all along.
